The French Forum for Open and Distance Learning has initiated the creation of a European forum made up of similar structures in some sixteen European countries including European Union Member States with the aim of setting up within two years a federation on a European level providing a privileged network for the exchange and promotion of European expertise in Open & Distance Learning and Educational Multimedia.

A first conference was held in UTRECHT (NL) from March 24^th to 26^th. At this conference was lauched the European Federation for Open and Distance Learning.

The European Federation for Open and Distance Learning (E.F.ODL) constitution as an international association under the Belgium law has been signed by the founding members on 21^st October 1998.

The European Federation for Open and Distance Learning is now a member of the ODL Liaison Comittee, set up by the European Commission as an advising comittee regrouping several european associations representing ODL stakeholders.

Working commissions

• to analyse regulatory constraints on the development ODL in France: a report has been released in the second quarter of 1998, and presented to the French Ministery of Employment, the State Secretary to Vocational Training and the Prime Minister. It will be published as soon as we are allowed to. Some elements of this report were unveiled during the videoconference between Cité des Sciences and Educatec on the 03/12/98 (summary available in French).

• to·enhance the international image and presence of French training multimedia: common presentation of the french expertise has been made available.

• to propose solutions to publish multimedia training material for the first qualification levels, and to support adult basic skills development. This activity should produce a least a report.

Participation in events and conferences

The fffod takes part with active support of its members in conferences in France and abroad, and proposes to its members to take part in various social events (to have more details about fffod activities, see also the internal newsletter pages "la lettre du fffod").

Conference on Multimedia and Training 96, 2 and 3 April 1996 at the Palais des Congrès, Paris. ·

International G7 conference « Information Society and Development » (ISAD) at Midrand, Republic of South Africa (in conjunction with the Ministries of Foreign Affairs, of Employment and of Co-operation).

Round table at the Condorcet meetings, Palais des Congrès, Paris on 30 September and 1^st October.

Seminar on Distance Training of Executives in the Mediterranean Rim, Rabat, Morocco, under the auspices of UNESCO and invited by the public authorities, from 14 to 18 October 1996.

France Didac, Paris, 16 October 1996. · Educatec 96, on the platform of the Ministry of Employment, Vocational Training Delegation, at the CNIT, Paris La Defense. ·

First Professional Conference on Teleservices at the Great Arch of La Defense, Paris, from 27 to 29 January 1997.

The second Vocational Training Fair, in Paris (Porte de Verailles), from 27 February to 1^st March1997.

Meeting with the main actors involved in ODL and Educational Multimedia in Midi-Pyrénées Region in May 1997.

Educatec 97, on the FORM'ENTREPRISES platform, from 2 to 5 december 1997.

Between the 13 January 1998 and the 24 June 1999, the fffod organises with other partners the Open University of the Information Society and the Networks, which consisted in about 200 events, conference, workshops... The content of these events is accessible on the fffod website, via the Open University programme pages.

From 1^st to 4^th December 1998, the fffod was at the EDUCATEC 98 exhibition, on the FORM'ENTREPRISES platform, together with several of its members.

In April 1999, the fffod was a member of the TELEFORM'99 Jury for the best Intranet for Training in Marseille. The fffod become an official partner of TELEFORM 2000.

From 19^th & 20^th May 1999, fffod participated in theTOP RF’99 conference in Paris

From 24^th to 28^th November 1999, fffod was at the Salon de l’Education – Educatec 99 - Form’entreprise, Porte de Versailles, Paris.

On 1^st et 2^nd March 2000, fffod participated in the TOP RF’2000 conference in Paris.
